*Reflection
Dwayne, Christina, and I went over the remainder of the modules (eight and nine) which described the importance of exercise order and post exhaust, and also reviewing the business plan. There isnt really that much to report today. Overall, Ive learned a lot this week about sales and marketing, and my training with clients is sharpening. In addition, working on the equipment protocol project is helping me get an in depth look into each exercise.

*Reflection
Today was a very productive day. I was able to work on the equipment protocol project as well as workout five people today. I noticed that working out people is becoming much easier and I especially like building relationships and a common interest with the clients. I feel as though working with more clients will build my clientele when I actually become an employee here.

Day 45 Aug. 12, 2009
8:00 a.m. Arrival Answered phone calls and wiped down machines Learned more manual exercises Put new clients in the New Client spreadsheet Looked up replies and threads for the article Why Exercise Wont Make You Thin
2:00 p.m. Protocol Meeting
3:00 p.m. Workout circuit with Robin
5:00 p.m. Departure
*Reflection
The replies that I had looked up were from the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) and Why Exercise Wont Make You Thin. They were basically against the article saying that In the protocol meeting we discussed the article that I had read on Monday. We discussed that in order to lose weight, you have to change the way you eat, and not how you exercise. Yes, exercise has beneficial aspects as helping people stay fit, strengthens muscles, bones and immune system; and lowers the risk or medical issues.

Day 44 Aug. 11, 2009
9:00 a.m. Arrival Answered phone calls and wiped down machines Worked on the equipment protocol by looking up information in the anatomy texts
12:00 p.m. Worked out Christina Called potential clients that were scheduled in the workout book to confirm their appointment
2:00 p.m. Staff Meeting
3:00 p.m. Worked out Robin
5:00 p.m. Departure
*Reflection
In the staff meeting, we discussed phone calls that we have with potential clients, networking events that were coming up, and managing the new client spreadsheet. For the remainder of the meeting, we did some role playing.
The equipment protocol project is very time consuming and requires a lot of information to look up. I feel as though that I am going to need the entire remainder of this internship to finish it. The more I workout with the staff, the better and more comfortable I will feel working out with regular clients. Going through the first workout is second nature to me.

Day 43 Aug. 10, 2009
8:00 a.m. Arrival Answered phone calls and wiped down machines Folded towels and put them away 11:15 a.m. Lunch Break Went over manual resistance exercises 12:00 p.m. Workout circuit with Luke 12:30 p.m. Worked Luke out 1:00 p.m. Worked out a client Read the article, Why Exercise Wont Make You Thin by John Cloud from Time magazine. 4:00 p.m. Departure
*Reflection The manual resistance exercises that I went over today help with substituting a machine that is already being used. Manual resistance is also a good substitute to help a client with an injury or if the machine is too weight-bearing for the client. The article that I read today was very interesting. I thought that the author should have been too the point and I wish there was more fact-based information in it in order to explain and support the reasoning behind why exercising does not make a person thin.

Week 9 Summary Aug. 08, 2009
The ninth week of my internship was more or less hands on
than anything. I really feel
comfortable and confident taking someone through a workout. Even when working on the modules and
creating a list of ten questions
for each one, helps a lot with understanding the protocol in depth.

*Reflection
Module 4 was about business and marketing and module 5 was
about substituting different exercises, setting up someone in the machine, and
knowing what the agonist, synergist, and antagonist muscles involved in the
upper body of the second workout.
In the protocol meeting, Dwayne made up different scenarios
that may happen in the gym setting.
This involved scenarios about substituting a machine if another trainer
is already using it, or why we go from this machine to the next in a workout.

Module 3 was about exercise order, free weights vs.
machines, substituting exercises, and knowing what the agonist, antagonist, and
synergist muscles that are involved in the lower body during the first workout.
Working out with Chris was a great learning experience
because he was able to teach me as I was working him out.
The staff meeting was doing more role playing when attending
events and other outings that promote Vertex Fitness.
Today was a very productive day and great learning
experience for me. I feel like Im
getting a lot of it by going over the modules with Dwayne and discussing them
as well as workout out the staff members.

workout log to confirm their appointment.
Entered in the client data from the Bryn Mawr concert in
order to do mail merge
Wiped down machines
4:00 p.m. Departure
*Reflection
Module 1 was mainly about the difference between frequency,
duration, and intensity, force and its role on injury during exercise, the
importance of breathing while working out, the order of exercise, recovery, and
working opposing muscle groups.
The questions that I had to design were for incoming trainers in
training. I had to create five
oral (which includes scenarios) and five written questions.
Working Christina out was a good experience because it was a
good chance for me to learn and get comfortable with seat settings and how to
execute each machine properly.

Week 8 Summary Aug. 01, 2009
Week eight of my internship was a very productive week for
me and I felt that I learned a lot about training and equipment protocol within
a brief time. I learned how to
execute all the exercises as well as the breakdown of three modules. I was also able to train Corinne, one
of the staff members at Vertex as well as attend the Bryn Mawr Twilight
concert. I believe that by
repetition and practice, I will able to get a excellent grasp on training.
