Cheryl Wheeler has to be seen to be appreciated. Nothing you read and nothing you hear from her albums prepares you for how good a performer she is.
You may not be familiar with Cheryl, but you have probably heard her music. She is very respected as a songwriter by her peers, which can be seen by how many of them record her songs. Chery's songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals, Peter Paul and Mary, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Suzy Boggus, Melanie, Bette Midler, Maura O'Connell, Sylvia, Kathy Mattea, and Holly Near. If they think she is great, then you owe it to yourself to learn more if you aren't familiar with her.
Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts kicks off its 3rd summer May 30, with the Fred Hall Dixieland Jazz band, & continues each Sat. at 7:00 PM thru August 8. Chris Smither, Steve Forbert, Cheryl Wheeler, Lucy Kaplansky, Bill Staines, the local bands Beau Django, Beats Walkin' & others will entertain weekly. In addition, the series includes a children's theater nite, Shakespeare In the Park, & a local teen band. The venue, Bryn Mawr's Gazebo, next to Ludington Library, 9 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., is alcohol- & smoke-free. Donations are $10, with kids 16 & under free. The park boasts a playground, families are welcome, & the Tom Chapin show of July 25 is a family affair. There's no concert on Sat., July 4, but the Eric Mintel Quartet will play a Dave Brubeck tribute Fri., July 3.
The concerts are presented by Lower Merion Township Parks and Recreation Dept., & sponsors include Bryn Mawr Trust Company, Bryn Mawr Hospital/Main Line Health, Commonwealth of PA/State Sen. Daylin Leach & State Rep. Tim Briggs, Lower Merion Commissioner Scott Zelov, PECO, & other local businesses, including Vertex Fitness Personal Training Studio, Bryn Mawr Running Co, Swarthmore Music Store,& John Fish and Son, Jewelers.
Bring lawn chairs, beach chairs or blankets, & picnics are welcome. Nolan Painting, another sponsor, will be providing free drinks.
