Even Muscles Work as a Team

Much like a team, you are only as strong as your weakest link. Studies have shown, that in order to get the most out of a team effort, everyone must work as hard as they can. If one muscle is stronger than the other, the stronger muscles wont get much out of the compound exercise. Lets consider a compound exercise as a team exercise since they use multiple muscles. For instance, if you were to perform a chin up, our Biceps would be the weakest link in your team of muscles. In this scenario your Lattissimus Dorsiwould be the strong muscle or “team captain.” In order to help your weaker member of the team get stronger, your member and leader have to be on an equal playing field. In order to put the weaker muscle (the Biceps) and the stronger muscle (Lattissimus Dorsi) on equal footing, we would have to first weaken the stronger muscle. In order to do that we would want to do an isolation exercise which targets the Lattissimus Dorsi specifically. After we target the Lattissimus Dorsi and exercise it to momentary muscle failure with an exercise such as a pullover, we would than go into the compound exercise of the chin up. Now that the Lattissimus Dorsi is at a weakened state, in theory the Bicep and Lattissimus Dorsi will get to momentary exhaustion around the same time on the chin up exercise
