From Humble Beginnings
My name is Michael Arrington, and I’m a trainer at Vertex Fitness using strength training to help beginners improve their quality of life. Born and raised in southern New Jersey, I grew up just outside of Mays Landing, a small town located about 15 miles west of Atlantic City. I am the older of two sons. With my competitive nature and athletic ability, sports naturally came easy for me. Upon entering my teenage years I suffered a reoccurring knee injury and a shoulder dislocation that slowed me down. Although these injuries were discouraging, I refused to give up playing sports. I began strength training at the high school level to heal my injuries and improve my athletic performance. As I excelled in the weight room, I began helping my fellow teammates to do the same. Weightlifting soon became more than a hobby–it was my passion. I began to read more and more on the subject to develop my own knowledge and understanding. It was at this point that I knew I had a future in helping others reach their fitness goals.
Finding my passion at an early age drove me to attend West Chester University of Pennsylvania as an Exercise Science major. There, I studied subjects such as exercise physiology, motor learning, biomechanics, exercise prescription for special populations, and clinical exercise testing. While finishing up my education I began the comprehensive internship program at Vertex Fitness in November of 2016. Going through this unique internship program has taught me a completely new approach to strengthening the body through strength training.
A New Approach to Strength Training
After my first meeting with Dwayne Wimmer, the owner and operator of Vertex Fitness, I saw great potential for growth at Vertex. The internship program has helped me to further develop my skill set as a personal trainer as well as in sales and marketing, customer service, and overall success. The style of training here is nothing like the fitness fads of today. Our programs are thoughtfully crafted to help beginners to world class athletes develop the strength they need to improve their overall quality of life in a relatively short period of time. Because of this, trainers at Vertex Fitness are capable of adjusting to the specific needs of anyone looking to get stronger.
