I was a client at Vertex Fitness in Bryn Mawr for several years and due to travel and work obligations found it necessary to stop for about a year.

I train to enhance my life because for me maintaining my strength, agility and sharpness is very important. I believe that when I have strength training in my life many other things fall into place.


When my schedule clamed down and I was able to resume training, I decide to check out other facilities before making a commitment to any place.

I checked out three or four other fitness centers and found that either their size was too big (at one well known fitness center the parking situation was horrendous! I didn’t need that aggravation…) or they were too small and seemed somewhat understaffed and not able to spend enough quality time with me.

Vertex Fitness remained the best choice for me it allows me to work with a verity of trainers rather then just one. It gives me a chance to benefit from different workout perspectives and difference personalities. I am also able to schedule Vertex into my schedule, sometimes at the last minute, and not the other way around.

It was like coming home and very comfortable for me that meant a great deal.

I started at Vertex Fitness with the intention of learning how to exercise and take that knowledge to a local gym and work out on my own, I know other Vertex clients do this. I originally made a one-year commitment to myself. After that one-year and losing over twenty-five pounds, I made a commitment to continue at Vertex.

I am soon to enter my fifth year, I have lost over sixty pounds, lowered my blood pressure twenty five basis points on both the top and the bottom numbers, lowered my cholesterol by at least 40 points, and reduced my pants size over 6 inches. I have more than doubled my sales production at work, been promoted, and enhanced my social and family life.

My time investment is only forty-five minutes twice a week. I have recurring time slots; which enables me to work my busy schedule around my workouts and show up each week on a consistent basis. I’m a single, working mother with limited time and disposable income, but any time I question whether my workouts at Vertex are worth it, the answer is always “yes.” I get more out of a 30-minute workout at Vertex than I ever did when working out longer and more frequently on my own. And though when I started at Vertex in November 2005 I thought I needed to stick to one trainer, I’ve found that I prefer alternating between four or five different trainers now. While all the trainers are consistent in their technique and message, each one has a slightly different style and area of emphasis. And all of them are a pleasure to work with. I just returned from my annual ski trip to Aspen. I could not have been happier with the results and would have called from the sloops to thank the staff at Vertex, if it was not for my aversion to cell phones while skiing. After only 15 workouts I skied better than when I was in my 20's, the burning in my legs was gone, my balance was better and I did not meet a mogul or a jump that I did not hit. Not once was I the one in our group to say I was tired and let's pack it in for the day and we skied about 6 hours straight everyday for three days. I started working out at Vertex Fitness, mainly because I have arthritis in most of my major joints from an accident years ago, and do not want to have to take medication. I knew that strengthening the muscles would support the joints better, and reduce the discomfort I was feeling, but one of my knees is so fragile that I could not find a trainer that I trusted enough to work around it without doing any damage. All of the trainers at Vertex know how to work with and around injuries of all sorts, and they know how to push to get the maximum benefit out of every session.

It has been my pleasure to work out at Vertex Fitness. Over the years I have tried numerous different types of activities to keep in shape. This included the obligatory gym memberships, as well as various home workouts. None of these activities were successful or provided the benefits of Vertex.

Although golf is a game of finesse, strength is also a big factor. Strength is even more important for women than it is for men because the farther women hit the ball, the bigger the advantage. Every woman on the tour will attest to that, especially Annika Sorenstam who has made her intense workouts a cornerstone of her success.

I am an Occupational Therapist and work with children ages 3-5 that have special needs. My work is physically and emotionally intense. I have been training at Vertex Fitness 2 to 3 times a week since February 2007. I continue training at Vertex, not just because of the expertise of all of the trainers, but also the professional facility. The size is just right, small enough to give me the individual feeling I need, but big enough to house all the exceptional equipment needed for a complete workout. The facility is well lit and comfortable which provides a relaxed but encouraging atmosphere to meet my goals.

My goals of firming up and strengthening my whole body were what took me to Vertex in the first place. The staff focused on what I was looking to get from a workout from the first time I stepped into the place. In a short time, I noticed an increased muscle tone and strength in my arms, legs, abdominals, low back and torso. The lost inches in my waist, which was something I was looking to achieve, also. There is always a concern and focus for what I want to achieve and an ongoing training plan is implemented to ensure that I reach my goals. At Vertex, they focus is on my fitness training from the moment that I arrive until the moment I leave. I look forward to my session each time I have one scheduled.

As a result of my training at Vertex Fitness, I believe I received a bonus of more physical stamina and self-confidence, which is apparent in both my personal and professional lives. At age 56, I feel that my overall health is improving instead of the inevitable decline that comes with age.

I happened upon Vertex Fitness quite by accident and was curious as to what it was all about so I decided to try a session. I had never worked with a trainer or participated in any kind of strength training. I enjoyed the workouts from the start and have been consistently working out at Vertex since 2004. The results were noticeable right away, I feel stronger, look better and I have more energy. I am a tennis player and occasionally get injured while playing. I have been able to work around and through a few different injuries over the years, while still getting the most out of the sessions. I initially started to workout at Vertex to build strength and to just get back into a healthy life style as my late 50’s started to talk to me. I have always had a case of gym intimidation but I found Vertex to be non threatening and I was encouraged by the supportive and understanding staff. However, a month or so into the program, and unrelated to the workouts, I learned I had to have a quadruple by-pass operation which was not exactly what I had planned. After several months of rehab and restricted lifting (nothing heavier than a gallon of milk) I was able to start back at Vertex. They understood my situation and worked me back with a gradual program to take me beyond “recovery”. I have a ten inch scar to remind me to pass on the buttered popcorn and French fries but I feel stronger, with more energy now then I did before the surgery. I’ve been with Vertex since February 2007 and consider it not only a means of getting strong but its improved my quality of life and now I consider it a part of my ongoing “health care” plan.

After working out consistently for years, my fitness level had stagnated, and I was frustrated. I had strength trained for about 16 years - spending hours that I didn’t have to spare at the gym, never knowing where my limits were, never seeing results, and always dreading the experience.

Training at Vertex is completely different. The sessions are extremely intense, focused, productive and efficient. It is training with integrity. I feel like I can reclaim hours of my life because I’m not wasting them attempting to strength train unproductively on my own.

Each of the trainers is highly attentive, knowledgeable, and thoroughly understands the way the body works and how to push you to your edge- without injury. They can help you interpret your effort and pain, and give you the courage to go further. They suggest microscopic tweaks to your movements that ultimately make the difference between form and flab.

I’m a runner -I have run in 16 marathons and ultras and run 35-40 miles per week, and have a 3:18 PR (personal record). I have benefited from the strength training program at Vertex. Feeling stronger has improved my quality of life - the way I feel when I’m running, the way my clothes fit, the way I feel when I wake up in the morning, how well I sleep, and how motivated I am to keep pushing, and carving out a better version of myself.
