Vertex Client David Broida, Still Skiing Strong at 70 Years of Age
Yes, I am skiing strong and that’s World Ski Champion Lindsey Vonn and me at the World Alpine Ski Championships at Beaver Creek (Feb. 2015). Lindsay brought home one of the 5 American medals, with the U.S. finishing 2nd to Austria with 9 medals.
While Lindsey was schussing down the racecourse, I was keeping up with my kids and grandkids this time, something I failed to do on my last excursion in December. At age 70, I learned the hard way, if you don’t train well, your quadriceps fail you not only in the mogul fields and double black diamonds, but also just about everywhere at Vail and Beaver Creek.
So, between December and my return visit in February, I visited Vertex Fitness, where the trainers put me to work, strengthening my quads (and the rest of my body) to the point where I could handle the steep slopes of Colorado’s ski terrain. When I returned, I could keep up with the kids and grandkids, and this time, thankfully, no family member had to stay behind and “babysit” Papa, nor did the crew have to wait for me at the lift lines.
Thanks to Dwayne Wimmer and the staff at Vertex Fitness for making me strong again, although not as strong as Lindsey Vonn.
