Hello Pennsylvania! Ashley King
On May 1, 2015 I arrived in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. I left my family, friends, and everything I knew back in Southern California to follow my biggest passion of all, love. Following my heart and moving to the east coast has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m not only with the love of my life, I’m embarking on the career of my dreams. This new path, along with my background in health and wellness, has given me the confidence and motivation to become a personal trainer at Vertex Fitness.
I began my journey in fitness when I was nine years old at the Japan Karate-do Federation in Orange County, California. I’m now a second-degree black belt and have been practicing Shotokan Karate-do for 15 years. Throughout my experience, I was a Karate-do instructor, a national coach, and an avid competitor. I have earned the privilege of being a national champion, for 8 consecutive years, as well as competing internationally. When I was 16 years old I made the US World Karate Team and had the honor of representing the USA in international competitions around the world. Out of all my experiences in the martial arts, what I value the most is its influence on the development of my self-discipline, self-respect, and a strong work ethic. These qualities are what I carry into every area of my life and are what makes me who I am today.
To me, exercise is much deeper than just the physical act of working out. That hour, or half hour, is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, physically and mentally. Throughout my many endeavors in fitness, what I’ve found to be the key for making fitness a way of life is mental discipline. Here at Vertex, our focused, attention to detail allows our clients to strengthen their mental discipline. I believe exercise should be looked at as a dedicated practice, just as in the martial arts. The more you strengthen your practice, the deeper it will become, and the more it will mean to you. I look forward to educating and helping our clients deepen their practice of exercise through proper form and body awareness.
