From Cajun Country to Philadelphia’s “Main Line”; changing my life for a Personal Training Opportunity – Joshua Guillory

My name is Joshua Guillory. I was born and raised in South Louisiana, specifically the small town of Youngsville right outside of the city of Lafayette. Lafayette is also known as “Cajun Country” which is about 2.5 hours from New Orleans. I relocated this summer to Bryn Mawr, PA to pursue my personal training career with Vertex Fitness Personal Training Studio. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made!

A little about me… I am the oldest of four children including a 20-year-old sister, 13-year-old sister, and 11-year-old brother. I am also the first person to attend and graduate college in my immediate family. I have been fortunate to travel across the USA for internships and graduate school over the last couple of years. This created opportunities for me to live in Louisiana, North Carolina, Georgia, and now Pennsylvania. I have worked as a certified personal trainer since 2008 and as a strength and conditioning coach since 2014.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, reading, practicing my catholic faith, powerlifting, and olympic weightlifting. I have worked in the fitness industry for over eight years holding multiple certifications in personal fitness training, strength and conditioning, and corrective exercise through RTS, the NSCA, NASM, and ACSM.

Ready for a change and looking for an opportunity to grow professionally and personally, I decided to pursue a career with Vertex Fitness. The chance to work under the leadership and direction of Mr. Dwayne Wimmer was reason enough to make this big move. Mr. Wimmer and I connected a few years ago through social media and have kept in touch since then. He is well respected in the fitness industry, a leader possessing a wealth of knowledge, experience, and success. To learn from him was an opportunity I could not pass up. Since my move, I have been exposed to many new materials in the form of books, DVDs, written assignments, and video analysis on topics ranging from exercise science, training protocols, sales, marketing, customer service, and success training. Much of the Vertex training curriculum is not formally covered during the pursuit of a degree or in various certification courses. These are skills and qualities you learn either on the job, from a mentor, or during an extensive internship. Dwayne has shown me that it is possible to develop a valuable career in our industry while also remaining a true professional.

Working at Vertex Fitness has been nothing like I have ever imagined. The professional atmosphere of the facility, the attention to detail during each session, and the uniqueness of the training methodology is second to none. Out of all the places to practice my passion, Vertex Fitness stood out to me as the best environment to a build long lasting career in the fitness industry. Our clientele believes in our philosophy of safe, efficient, effective, evidence based strength training. It has been very fulfilling to work with such great people!
